Um, Jennifer? Summon the Void and the Joy on Debut Album Um Comma Jennifer Question Mark, Out Now via Final Girl Records

New York’s chaotic-soft-punk duo Um, Jennifer? have officially released their long-awaited debut album, Um Comma Jennifer Question Mark, now streaming everywhere via Final Girl Records. Anchored by their latest single and video, “Old Grimes,” the album is a surreal, scuzzy, and stunningly heartfelt ride through queer longing and emotional absurdity.

“Old Grimes” drops listeners into a foggy, reverb-soaked waltz, part existential spiral, part love letter to memory and malaise. “I’m toeing a hard line!” Eli Scarpati shouts, pulling us away from the void just as the bass tries to drag us back. It's a track that seesaws between dissociation and delirium, wrapped in acoustic guitars and post-punk chaos. “The void wouldn’t have an acoustic guitar!” Scarpati jokes, and somehow, it makes perfect sense.

The full album expands the duo’s weird and wonderful universe, introduced in last year’s Girl Class EP. Across eleven tracks, Fig Regan and Scarpati offer a gritty, theatrical, and deeply personal narrative guided by a mystical force they call “Jennifer” - a godlike voice that appears through a red rotary phone or whispers on Delancey Street at sunrise. Whether it’s falling in love at a car wash, fantasizing revenge, or begging to be eviscerated by love in “Cut Me Open,” Um Comma Jennifer Question Mark is a kaleidoscope of feelings: funny, horny, heartbreaking, and holy.

Produced by Grammy-winning producer Ariel Loh, the album also marks the duo’s first-ever vinyl release, in partnership with Loh’s new imprint, Trans Music Archive—a project preserving trans musical legacies in physical formats.
