San Diego’s SULLVN Releases Cover of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ Classic

San Diego’s own sullvn, a vibrant 10-piece collective known for their retro-soul-meets-modern-pop sound, have released a bold new cover of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ ska-punk anthem “The Impression That I Get.” Alongside the single comes the announcement of their signing to Big Noise Music Group, home to acts like Avril Lavigne, Goldfinger, and The Wrecks.

For lead vocalist and founder Robert “Sully” Sullivan, the song carries deep personal meaning:

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ song, ‘The Impression That I Get,’ has been part of my life since the day it was first released almost 30 years ago. To be able to have John Feldmann produce our version of the song was extraordinary. We hope to honor the original while giving it our own retro-soul twist, and Feldy really brought it home for us.

Sullvn’s ability to bridge classic influences with fresh energy is what has made them stand out. Their version injects the track with their hallmark blend of horn-driven soul, irresistible groove, and a polished pop sensibility.

Sullvn is more than a band, it’s a musical family of elite session and touring musicians. Their roster includes GRAMMY-nominated bassist James East, saxophonist Tripp Sprague (Kenny Loggins, Smokey Robinson), and guitarist Brian Jordan, among others. This diverse lineup has earned them the description of “a sonic melting pot of elite players.”

Big Noise Music Group President Jon Cohen shared his excitement:

We are thrilled to welcome sullvn to the Big Noise family — the band adds huge energy and excitement to the roster!

The signing marks a pivotal moment for sullvn, who have steadily built their reputation through festival appearances and dynamic live performances. In 2025 alone, they’ve graced stages at BeachLife Festival and Fiesta Del Sol, while sharing bills with The Wailers.

In 2024, sullvn released their debut EP Love and Lies, featuring standout singles like “Liars” and “Oh California.” With new music in the works, the group is poised to further expand its soulful, genre-blending catalog and share it with even bigger audiences.

As Wonderland Magazine noted, sullivn’s artistry “feels both nostalgically familiar and refreshingly modern,” a sentiment that perfectly sums up their approach to this new chapter.
