The band first formed in Cardiff-by-the-Sea in 2005 before spending years developing their sound in the Midwest and Nashville. Now back in San Diego, Cardiff State has built a style that blends indie folk and indie rock, drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists, including Peter Gabriel, The National, Death Cab for Cutie, Loggins and Messina, The Doobie Brothers, Paul Simon, and Joy Oladokun.
The new EP reflects the band’s years of evolution and geographic movement, pulling together influences from across their journey while staying rooted in the Southern California scene where it all began. For Cardiff State, State Line represents both a continuation of their story and a fresh chapter as they reconnect with their home base.
State Line offers listeners a chance to experience Cardiff State’s distinctive mix of heartfelt songwriting and layered instrumentation. Music shaped by years of travel and growth, but firmly grounded in San Diego.
