New Band Alert! Meet Amalgamation

New San Diego Band Alert! Meet Amalgamation, an indie-rock/alternative band originally from the Bay area. Let's get to know this new band by hearing about their experience in the San Diego music scene compared to others and much more!

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR BAND NAME. HOW DID YOU GUYS NAME YOURSELVES?

"Amalgamation means a combination of metals or creative ideas and the uniting of two forces. It seemed to be very befitting for our group. Our logo is a water spirit, and our music is in the rock-indie/alternative genre."

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO FORM A BAND TOGETHER?

"Amalgamation means a combination of metals or creative ideas and the uniting of two forces. It seemed to be very befitting for our group. Our logo is a water spirit, and our music is in the rock-indie/alternative genre."

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHOW MEMORY AND WHY?

"We played at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, a legendary and magnificently ornate space where we used to live. It was an honor to play at one of the big-name clubs in that area as an up-and-coming band just starting."

WHAT IS YOUR CRAZIEST LIVE SHOW STORY?

"At a gig in Sacramento called the Roadhouse, a male fan screamed, 'I love you!!!!' then ran at breakneck speed to the stage, jumped up, and rolled around on his back with elation. That was a very punk rock moment for an indie band like us!"

AS A NEW BAND, HAS IT BEEN DIFFICULT TO FIT INTO THE SAN DIEGO MUSIC SCENE?

"Ivo (my bandmate/husband) and I have found the SD area to be much friendlier and more accessible in many ways. In fact, there is a flow happening here that we have been striving to achieve for a handful of years back in the bay area. We love it here and are excited for what's to come in our music career and have made many friends like you, good people at Amplified."

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INFLUENCES?

"Our influences range from Radiohead to PJ Harvey, Led Zeppelin, St. Vincent, Spoon, Phantogram, Jeff Buckley, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Keys, Heart, delta blues, Motown, and middle eastern music & motifs. I bellydance as a side hobby and am heavily influenced by world/Mideast vocals and rhythms."

WHAT ARE SOME FUTURE ENDEAVORS WE CAN EXPECT FROM YOU?

"On June 1st Thursday, we will be playing our first show in the area from 5-7 pm at Teri Common Grounds in San Marcos as a duo. In the future, we would like to resume playing as a 4-piece band when we recruit a new drummer and bassist. Don't hesitate to contact us if you dig our sound, rhythm players! Expect new recordings in the coming year because we've got new songs in the works and others waiting in the wings to be recorded."
